This Teesdale CRC TT event is held in March annually. It is the shortened version of the T244 which was originally used. The course is approx. 20.7 miles long, the course record is currently held by Teesdale's Darren Gee at 47.35 set in 2015.
Starting just out of the village of Staindrop, Start on the B6279, 3 yards before 'Staindrop' sign and proceed towards Darlington, taking care at Spinford Bridge through the blind corners, to turn left onto the unclassified road signposted 'Hilton 1 ml, Wakerfield 2ml' before Ingleton village (2.3 miles). Continue uphill, past Hilton and Wakerfield turn left onto A688 opposite The Sun Inn (4.15 miles). Go down Keverstone Bank and past Raby Castle to Staindrop Church corner (6.50 miles). Turn left onto the B6274 signposted “Winston”. Continue towards Winston to the junction with the A67 where turn left with extreme care towards Darlington (9.11 miles). Follow the A67 through Gainford, and at Piercebridge bear left onto the sliproad B6275 for 'Royal Oak' (13.71 miles). Give way and turn left onto the B6275 to proceed north to Denton/Summerhouses crossroads, where turn left onto the B6279 towards Staindrop (15.48 miles). Head back towards Staindrop in a westerley direction, past Summerhouses, through Ingleton, and past the first turn (18.4 miles), to finish 3 yards beyond the grate opposite the 'Staindrop' village sign (ie opposite the start line) (20.7 miles)
On 22nd March club chairman Bob Murdoch put on a superb local event and the weather could not have been better. Teesdale CRC’s 21 mile Time Trial runs from Staindrop to Ingleton then Wackerfield looping back to Staindrop. Riders then continue to Winston, Piercebridge and Summerhouses then finally back to Staindrop.
Teesdale CRC’s Darren Gee continues his great early season form leading the field of 53 entrants home in a superb course record time of 47.35, over half a minute ahead of the field. Equally impressive was Ingrid Shepherd (Sunderland Clarion) who finished 11th overall and setting a ladies course record of 52.02 in the process. Teesdale CRC’s team continues to grow from strength to strength with a further 11 competitors – Nick Hamilton 16th (1st Junior 15 year old) 53.09, Julian Waller 21st 54.14, Phill Collings 23rd 54.51, Rob Brown 26th 56.26, Paul Stables 27th 56.37, Steve Smith 30th 57.08, Graham Watson 39th 1.01.17, Lee Brass 41st 1.02.11, Louise Hamilton 42nd (2nd Lady) 1.05.06, Adam Holmes 43rd 1.07.04 and Martin Bell 45th 1.08.56.
Bob Murdoch thanked those who assisted in making the event such a success - Andy, Russ and Paul at the start and finish. Bernie, Phil, Steve, Chris, Rob and Darren for marshalling, Mark for the results board, Lesley and Val for the tea and cakes back at HQ, and all who provided the event with cakes which raised £44 for the Great North Air Ambulance.
